NFL Week 3: September 19 – 23, 2019

We’ll provide some details and insights on some of the potential top daily fantasy defense/special team value plays for week 3.

Salary ranks are based on the main-slate Sunday only (13 games).

Betting lines are as of the time of this writing.

Updates will be made as new info comes to light.

Defense

Arizona Cardinals – Salaries: DraftKings (DK) – 2700 (5.4% of cap), FanDuel (FD) – 3200 (4.5% of cap). The Cardinals’ salary ranks them 14th/24th on DK/FD, respectively, making them a much better relative value on FD.

The betting line with the Panthers (0-2) has the game total at 46.5 points with the Cardinals (0-1-1) as +2.5 point home dogs. The Cardinals’ implied team total is currently at 22 points and the Panthers are currently at 24.5 points.

At Baltimore last week, the Cardinals’ defense logged 2 sacks and allowed 23 points.

Tampa Bay’s defense logged 3 sacks and 1 fumble recovery while holding the Panthers’ offense to 12 points at Carolina last week. Carolina gives up the 8th most fantasy points to opposing defenses.

Cam (foot) missed practice and his status for this week is looking very iffy. Cam re-aggravated his foot sprain he suffered during the preseason last week against Tampa Bay. This may partially explain Cam’s 0 yards rushing last week. HC Rivera stated that Kyle Allen would get the start if Cam can’t go. That being the case, Arizona makes for a cheap, opportunistic play against a Carolina offense already having problems.
Update:
Kyle Allen gets the start this week.

Seattle Seahawks – Salaries: DraftKings (DK) – 3200 (6.4% of cap), FanDuel (FD) – 3800 (6.33% of cap). Seattle’s salary ranks them 7th/20th on DK/FD, respectively, making them a much better relative value on FD.

The betting line with the Saints (1-1) has the game total at 44.5 points with the Seahawks (2-0) as -4.5 point home favorites. The Seahawks’ implied team total is currently at 24.5 points and the Saints are currently at 20 points.

In Pittsburgh last week, the Seahawks’ defense logged 1 sack and a 1 pick, and gave up 26 points.

The Rams’ defense tallied 2 sacks, 1 pick, and held the Saints to 9 points last week. Drew Brees (thumb) is expected to miss at least the next 6 weeks, with Teddy Bridgewater filling in. The Seahawks catch a break where their cover-3 defense matches up well for them this week.

Los Angeles Chargers – Salaries: DraftKings (DK) – 2500 (5% of cap), FanDuel (FD) – 3900 (6.5% of cap). The Bengals’ salary ranks them 18th/9th on DK/FD, respectively, making them a much better relative value on DK.

The betting line with the Texans (1-1) has the game total at 47.5 points with the Chargers (1-1) as -3 point home favorites. The Chargers’ implied team total is currently at 25.25 points and the Texans are currently at 22.25 points.

At Detroit last week, the Chargers’ defense logged 2 picks and held the Lions to 13 points. Detroit gives up the 10th (tied) most fantasy points to defenses.

At Houston last week, the Jaguars’ defense tallied 4 sacks and held the Texans’ offense to 13 points.

Houston has given up a league leading 10 sacks (tied) thru 2 weeks and face one of the top pass-rush tandems in the league. Houston’s O-line is still an issue, and Watson tends to hold onto the ball longer than he should. Watson’s avg. time-to-throw at 2.87 seconds is the 7th highest in the league.
