NFL Week 5: October 6th – 10th, 2016
We’ll provide some details and insights on some of the potential top daily fantasy defense/special team value plays for week 5.
Vegas lines are as of the time of this writing.
Defense
San Francisco 49ers – Salaries: DraftKings (DK) – 2600, FanDuel (FD) – 4100. San Francisco’s salary ranks them 18th/25th on DK/FD, respectively, making them a better relative value on FD.
The Vegas line currently has the game total with the Cardinals at 43 points (3rd lowest on the board) with the 49ers as +4 point dogs at home on Thursday night.
The Niners are likely to face QB Drew Stanton with Carson Palmer (Concussion) listed as doubtful. In relief of Palmer in the 4th quarter against the Rams, Stanton posted a line of 4/11, 37, 0:2 for a 6.8 passer rating.
The Niners’ main adversity will be David Johnson, as he should be relied upon to receive a heavy touch total, where the Niners give up the most yards on the ground. The loss of ILB Navarro Bowman (IR) certainly hurts this prospect. However, Arizona is a hot mess all around, and will be under a lot of pressure in hoping to avoid going 1-4 on a short week.
Update: Carson Palmer (concussion) has been ruled out.
Philadelphia Eagles – Salaries: DraftKings (DK) – 2900, FanDuel (FD) – 4600. Philadelphia’s salary ranks them 12th/10th on DK/FD, respectively.
The Vegas line has the game total with the Lions at 46 points with the Eagles as -3 point road favorites.
Coming off their bye week, Philadelphia’s defense ranks 1st in points allowed, fantasy points allowed to QBs, fantasy points allowed to TEs, 2nd in fantasy points allowed to RBs, 3rd in total yards allowed, rush yards allowed, and 4th in fantasy points scored. Detroit’s rushing avg. ranks them in the bottom third, which should potentially force Matthew Stafford to go aerial. CB1 Leodis McKelvin (hamstring) may make his return this week as well.
Buffalo Bills – Salaries: DraftKings (DK) – 3100, FanDuel (FD) – 4600. Buffalo’s salary ranks them 9th/10th on DK/FD, respectively.
The Vegas line has the game total with the Rams at 39.5 points (lowest on the board) with the Bills as +2.5 point road dogs.
Buffalo’s defense ranks tied for 2nd (with Denver) in fantasy points scored and 6th in points allowed and fantasy points allowed to QBs. The Bills are a middling defense statistically in yards allowed in the air and on the ground. DT Marcel Dareus returns from suspension, albeit in what projects to be a limited role.
The Rams offense ranks last in yards per game and 3rd worst in points scored. Coming off a big road win by shutting out the Patriots in New England, Buffalo will need to focus on containing RB Todd Gurley, as the Rams offer little else offensively.
Los Angeles Rams – Salaries: DraftKings (DK) – 3200, FanDuel (FD) – 4700. Los Angeles’ salary ranks them 7th on both DK and FD.
The Rams’ defense ranks 5th in fantasy points scored. Los Angeles ranks in the bottom third in yards allowed, but the top third in points allowed. They are a middling group in fantasy points allowed to all positions. Buffalo’s offense ranks 2nd worst in passing yards per game but 7th best in rush yards per game. Buffalo’s 21.8 offensive points per game ranks them 17th.
Much like Buffalo, the Rams’ defense will need to follow a similar script by containing RB LeSean McCoy. Buffalo’s pass offense doesn’t pose much of a threat to Los Angeles, especially with WR1 Sammy Watkins (foot) ruled out.
