Analyzing trends in FanDuel’s salary amounts per player vs. their scoring by position:

The position tables are sorted by the avg. of FanDuel salary cost per point scored. The lower the FanDuel Price/Point, the more efficient salary dollars were spent in generating points, basically, the lower the FanDuel Price/Point, the better.

This amount is calculated by taking the avg. salary cost of a player for all games that player appeared in, divided by the avg. FanDuel points scored per game.

Note: The QBs table omits week 16-17 stats to avoid the “nothing to play for” scenarios for QBs, etc. that would unrealistically skew the weekly averages. (Those of you who had Andrew Luck as your season-long league QB in championship week know what I’m talking about.)

Andrew Luck 396.30 24.96 9,892.86
Russell Wilson 407.97 20.68 8,435.71
Matt Ryan 421.45 19.41 8,178.57

Aaron Rodgers 430.03 22.86 9,828.57

Ben Roethlisberger had the most efficient scoring production based on his avg. salary making him the best value at QB overall last season. The highest avg. salary QB was Peyton Manning, who ended up ranked 16th.

So on avg., Manning scored 21.63 points per game vs. the 20.34 points per game Roethlisberger scored, but on avg. Roethlisberger cost about $2,000 less than Manning giving up a 1.29 point differential.

This is one of many examples of how expensive QBs may not make good value plays in tournaments at FanDuel.

If you went with Roethlisberger instead of Manning in this scenario and give up the 1.29 points, but that additional $2,000 in salary cap space could have been spent upgrading other positions, like spending an additional $1,000 on WR Antonio Brown (20.15 points/game) instead of Alshon Jeffery (13.69 points/game) and an additional $1,000 on RB Arian Foster (19.58 points/game) rather than Gio Bernard (12.80 points/game).

In this scenario, the Roethlisberger/Foster/Brown vs. Manning/Jeffery/Bernard play would net on avg. 11.95 more points with approximately the same salary cost.

Let’s take another example, since Roethlisberger’s back-to-back 6 TD games skews his season avg.

A more consistent season avg. comparison could be Aaron Rodgers (22.86 FD Points/Game) and Teddy Bridgewater (14.53 FD Points/Game) since they both come in at a near identical 430 FD Price/Point return.

In this comparison, Bridgewater gives up just over 8 points to Rodgers but costs over $3,500 less on avg. than Rodgers.

Again, upgrading multiple other players/positions with this additional $3,500 in salary cap dollars would easily make up for the 8 points given up to Rodgers, who was the overall 3rd most expensive QB last season compared to Bridgewater, who was the cheapest overall QB play on this list at 23rd.

You could upgrade to Arian Foster (19.58 points) from Alfred Morris (11.21 points) for approximately $1,500 which now made up for the 8 points lost to Rodgers, plus an additional $2,000 to upgrade elsewhere.

QBs, even the run-first, protect the ball types generally have a higher floor for points than any other position.

Notice the Price/Point baseline for TEs is higher than all the other positions. This generally makes the TE the most expensive cost per point, and the worst value position outside of the top tier players.
